Welcome to the African Bushmeat Field Guide. Bushmeat is of serious concern in Africa for several reasons. Many species suffer not only from encroaching human populations and habitat loss but also form illegal poaching. These species become threatened or endangered unless the process is reversed. The guide is unique in combining information focused on natural history, as well as exploitation content and threatened status.

This guide has been researched, written and organized by students of the Conservation Forensics Class at High Tech High in San Diego. It is designed to inform and educate others about the diverse mammals of East Africa. We welcome suggestions/feedback on this project.
